Q: What are the key advantages of having a certificate or a designation from BOMI International?
A: Students have found that the training provided by BOMI International has been invaluable for real property and facilities management professionals. Employees gain a better understanding of a variety of challenges, such as ways to save energy, retain tenants, and properly plan and maintain workflow. All these factors are directly correlated to bottom-line results, making the education from BOMI International a great addition to a staff member or employer. Many students have found that a certificate program is great start toward a BOMI International education as it sets the foundation for a future designation.
Q: How can one become a student?
A: Your first step is to determine which certificate or designation program best fits your goals. Click here to view a chart of the certificate requirements and here for a designation chart.
Your second step is to check our course list and determine which course you would like to register for.
The third step is to fill out the Enrollment and Registration Form and either fax or mail it to BOMI International.

If you are already familiar with our programs, you can register for a course after reviewing the course list.
Q: How long does it take to complete a certificate and/or a designation program?
A: Students can complete their certificate program in one year based on completing one course per quarter for a total of three courses and a designation program in two years based on completing one course per quarter for a total of eight courses. However, there is no time limit in which students are required to complete their certificate or designation. Review the Certificate and Designation Chart and determine which program is best for your career path.
Q: How long does it take to complete a course, and how much are the courses?
A: Self-study students have six months to complete a course. Instructor-led online courses are typically 12 weeks. Accelerated courses generally run four days. Semester-length and Corporate group classes vary depending upon the course. See a listing of our courses. The costs of the courses vary according to the delivery option chosen. Q: What is the difference between the study methods?
A: BOMI International offers different study methods allowing for total flexibility according to your lifestyle and professional needs. Q: Which course should a student take first?
A: There is no set order in which to take our courses. We suggest that you first determine which certificate and/or designation program fits your professional needs and goals, and choose a course that complements your immediate responsibilities.
Q: Can students obtain college credit for the BOMI International courses they take?
A: The American Council on Education's College Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT) has evaluated and recommended all BOMI International designation courses for college credit, with the exception of Ethics Is Good Business® ShortCourse™. Q: Can students apply college credits or work experience towards a BOMI International designation program?
A: Yes. We realize that what you’ve learned on the job or at other educational institutions is valuable. Therefore, we offer options for obtaining credit for that experience. Competency Credits and Transfer Credits to view all our options to obtain credit.
Q: Who are BOMI International’s instructors, and how do you qualify them?
A: BOMI International instructors are dynamic individuals who are accomplished leaders in the property and facility management industries. All prospective instructors go through an extensive review process before they are asked to teach a course. Characteristics of a BOMI International instructor include:
- Technical competence in the subject matter to be taught
- Good presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively with adults
- Enthusiasm for the subject matter and for teaching
- Willingness to provide support and guidance to students regarding their careers and their progress in our designation programs
- Accessibility and approachability to answer questions and discuss matters of concern, both in and out of the classroom
- Practicing industry experts—instructors hold jobs in the industry
Q: Are students required to take an exam?
A: Yes. In order to obtain a BOMI International designation or certificate, students are required to take and pass an exam at the end of each required course. However, if a student does not wish to obtain a designation or certificate and does not plan on applying the credit towards a college program, they are not required to take an exam.
