About the Partnership

 
 

BOMI International recently announced an exciting partnership with the BOC, offered through the Northwest Energy Efficiency Council (NEEC). The partnership provides additional education opportunities for both organizations by awarding competency credit between BOC Level 1 and 2, and BOMI International’s Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT®) and Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA®) Designation Programs.

This page contains all of the details and instructions needed to take advantage of the special opportunities available through this partnership.

SMA/SMT Grads

 
 

Competency

The BOC is comprised of two levels: Level 1: Building Systems Maintenance and Level 2: Equipment Troubleshooting and Maintenance. Each level offers classes that provide energy-efficient management strategies proven to transform workplaces by saving an estimated $.03/sf on electric utility costs per year. As an SMA/SMT graduate, you may apply for competency credit toward 4 of  the 13 BOC Level 1 and 2 classes. The eligible classes are:

Level 1: Building Systems Overview and HVAC Systems and Controls
Level 2: HVAC Troubleshooting and Maintenance and HVAC Controls and Optimization

To earn a BOC Level 1 and 2, SMT/SMA graduates would be eligible to test out on the nine remaining classes, or choose to attend the classes. Either way, credit will be awarded only upon successful completion of the exam.

Cost

Competency for the four eligible BOC courses is $300.
Exam fee (if not taking the course) is $60 per exam.
Each of the nine classes cost $275, which includes the $60 exam fee.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

SMT/SMA Designation graduates will receive 1 CPD point for every hour spent in BOC classes and webinars. Participants interested in applying credit earned from these activities will be required to provide BOMI International with verification of program participation. BOC Level 1 and 2 Grads

 
 

Competency

BOC Level 1 and 2 graduates may receive competency credits for 2 of the 5 BOMI International SMT Designation courses:

Electrical Systems and Illumination – Fully understand how to safely operate and maintain a building’s electrical equipment to ensure reliable and effective systems.

Energy Management and Controls – Evaluate and optimize your current systems, know how to integrate new components, and gain the ability to communicate your needs to management.

To earn an SMT designation, you must complete the remaining three courses. Courses may be taken in the order, and via the delivery method preferred. BOMI International prices vary according to the delivery method preferred. For more information on the SMT designation program, please click here

Cost

Cost for the two courses is $475 (includes $175 for the one-time enrollment fee). Coursebooks can be purchased for each course for an additional $100/coursebook plus shipping and handling.

Continuing Education Hours (CEH)

BOC graduates will receive 24 CEH upon successful completion of an SMT course as long as the student takes the course and successfully passes the exam. To apply, complete and submit the application to BOMI International.

Exams and Fees

Students must successfully complete an exam for each remaining courses administered through BOMI International's testing provider, Pearson VUE. Testing fee for each course is $60. Retake and re-registration fees are $100. Students have a six-month eligibility period to schedule and take their exam. Note: Classroom options vary across the United States and prices vary depending on the course sponsor.
